ACL Boot Camp

ACL Injuries

Anterior cruciate ligament injuries are among the most devastating injuries for an athlete to deal with. What’s worse, re-injury rates can be as high as 20% in athletes who return to pivoting sports. Research shows us that a comprehensive and thorough rehabilitation program combined with appropriate return to sport testing can limit the adverse effects that are possible after an ACL injury. That is why I created the ACL Boot Camp program. It gives athletes an opportunity to recover from this injury like the professionals do so they can feel confident returning to the field of play.

ACL Boot Camp Components

  • Before Surgery

    • “Prehab” sessions that allow the athlete to meet their therapist and get comfortable in their surroundings before surgery

    • Thorough evaluation focusing on the athlete as a whole to help improve their outcomes after ACL reconstruction

    • Detailed discussions on the phases of rehab to help prepare the athlete for what is to come

  • After Surgery

    • Review of the surgical procedure and immediate post-op guidelines set by the surgeon

    • Weekly discussions on progress towards goals

    • Careful guidance through each phase of the ACL rehab process

    • Extensive return to sport testing protocol so each athlete feels strong and stable returning to the field

ACL Quick Facts

  • Reinjury rates are as high as 20% in athletes who return to pivoting sports

  • As low as 65% of athletes who undergo ACL reconstruction return to their pre-injury level

  • Completing therapy sessions (“prehab”) prior to surgery improves outcomes after surgery

  • Athletes who return to sport prior to 9 months post-surgery are more likely to suffer another injury

  • Basing return to play on timelines rather than an athlete’s ability to pass comprehensive return to sport testing increases the likelihood of another ACL injury
